After filing a $22 million lawsuit against Snoop Dogg [click to read] in 2006, the case of Richard Monroe Jr. versus Snoop Dogg is going to trial. Monroe alleges that Snoop (real name: Calvin Broadus) hit him with a brass-knuckle microphone during a skirmish at a 2005 concert during his “How the West Was Won” tour.
Court documents state Monroe believed he was responding to what he thought was a call for audience members to join the performers on stage. When Monroe jumped on the performance stage, he claims members of [Snoop‘s] entourage and security detail struck him and poured alcohol on him during a performance of the hit “Gin and Juice.” On Friday (April 25), Monroe testified that he woke up backstage, naked and in a pool of blood after the altercation.
On Monday, Snoop and members of his security detail testified that they were reacting because they thought Snoop was being attacked. Snoop maintains that he went back to his tour bus immediately after Monroe jumped on stage and was tackled by security.
“The best way for the injuries not to have occurred (was) for him to stay in his seat and enjoy the show like the rest of the fans,”Snoop added during his testimony.

The trial is expected to last throughout the week, at which point jurors will decide if Monroe is entitled to any financial compensation.
