With Major League Baseball‘s opening day and the men’s NCAA Final Four both happening on Monday, Hip Hop junkies who have an equal love of sports got an extra treat. And while the men of Michagan State University were unsuccessful in their efforts to bring a title back to Michigan, heads in the “Murder Mitten” can take heart in other teams for the rest of 2009. Slum Village‘s T3 recently took some time to discuss the Detroit sports scene with HipHopDX, explaining how recent events have made sports a welcome diversion.
“It’s going to be a dark time for Michigan if they don’t get things fixed,”T3 said, in response to news of more financial woes for General Motors and Chrysler. “It’s really not a good look for Michigan if you think about how crime could go up. I think the big wigs blew a lot of money and made a lot of dumb decisions. At the end of the day, it’s going to affect the middle man more than them. A lot of people can lose retirement money, so it’s something that definitely needs to be addressed. Without the auto companies what do we have? That’s the backbone of the USA.”
On a much lighter note, like many Michigan residents, T3 has been passing the time by keeping an eye on the rebuilding Detroit Pistons, who are currently battling for eighth place in the NBA‘s Eastern Conference.
“With all the changes in the starting lineup, I was just keeping my fingers crossed and hoping it would take more time for them to gel,”T3 explained. “At this point, I still got a little bit of hope for the Pistons, but they’re killin’ me right now. I don’t know if it was [Allen] Iverson or the coach, but this is not right.”

As for the woeful Detroit Lions, who set a record for NFL futility with an 0-16 record last season, T3 quickly squashed any talks of hope saying, “You always think there’s hope, but in real ass life, I don’t know about that.”
However, fans of Slum Village can take heart in the fact that the trio is putting the finishing touches on a new album. T3 says that an album of new material by himself, Elzhi and Baatin will be available in either May or June.
