2008 was a good year for Will Smith. Despite a slowing economy, The Fresh Prince found a way to make cash registers ring at the box office, generating the most box office revenue with “Hancock” and “Seven Pounds.”
The report, released by Quigley polled theater owners to determine the top ten biggest stars of the year. Smith is just the second black actor to claim the top slot.
Sidney Poitier was the first, taking top honors in 1968.
According to box office numbers, Smith’s summer film, “Hancock” grossed $228 million. His winter drama, “Seven Pounds” has not had the same luck, grossing $39 million to date.
