Diddy is taking it back to the ’90s — both in sound and style — in his new “Diddy Freestyle” video.
Released on Wednesday (October 26), the Mike Oberlies-directed clip finds the Bad Boy boss and his current boo, City Girls star Yung Miami, cruising through the New York City streets in the early hours of the morning.

The power couple put their wealth on full display as they rock mink coats and iced-out jewelry while enjoying the luxury of an open-top Maybach. Diddy’s sons, Justin and Christian “King” Combs, also make cameos in the flossy video.
“See, lame n-ggas gon’ do lame shit / How you flexing when your crew ain’t shit? / N-gga, you ain’t shit / Probably trick on something you ain’t hit / Try to do me but the shoe ain’t fit / And your jewels ain’t shit,” Puff raps, reasserting his status as Hip Hop’s preeminent slick talker.

Despite being billed as a freestyle, Diddy’s verse is actually lifted from “Watcha Gon’ Do? Dre Day,” his collaboration with Rick Ross and the late Notorious B.I.G. that he debuted on Drake’s OVO Sound Radio in 2017.
The song puts a modern spin on Leon Haywood’s 1975 hit “I Want’a Do Something Freaky to You,” which was famously sampled by Dr. Dre on 1992’s “Nuthin’ But a G Thang.”
“Diddy Freestyle” serves as Diddy’s second musical offering of 2022 following the Bryson Tiller-assisted “Gotta Move On,” which peaked at No. 79 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The R&B tune later received a “Queens Remix” makeover featuring Yung Miami and Ashanti, with the latter addressing her former Murder Inc. label boss Irv Gotti’s comments about their alleged romance.

“It’s giving ‘Obsessed,’ it’s giving ‘You stressed,’ it’s giving ‘You pressed,’ it’s givin’ ‘This n-gga missing the best’ / But it’s been twenty years, n-gga, please, say less / We can see all your tears while you beatin’ on your chest,” she sang.
“Diddy Freestyle” was actually filmed at the same time as the “Gotta Move On (Queens Remix)” video, which explains the similar scenes.

Diddy has been teasing a musical comeback for some time. Last year, the Harlem-bred mogul revealed plans to drop a new project called Off the Grid Vol. 1, although its scheduled September 2021 release date came and went.
In May, Puff appeared to recommit his focus by launching the R&B-leaning Love Records in partnership with Motown. It was reported a new solo album — his first 2015’s MMM (Money Making Mitch) — would be the first release from the imprint.

Diddy’s “Love era” — which also includes a collaboration with The Weeknd — appears to be part of his plan to reinstate New York as a force to be reckoned with in Hip Hop and R&B.
