YNW Melly is already standing trial for double murder in Florida. Now, the “Murder On My Mind” rapper is accused of having several weapons, including pipe bombs, in his jail cell.
According to AllHipHop, Melly’s visitation rights at a Florida jail have been restricted after another inmate claimed he had multiple shanks and pipe bombs. Per court documents, Melly’s lawyers filed a motion to lift restrictions at the Broward County Jail in Fort Lauderdale where Melly is being housed.
“On or around late March 2022, another inmate filed a grievance alleging that Mr. Demons was in possession of shanks and pipe bombs,” his legal team wrote. “In response correction personnel conducted a search of the entire dorm, at which time Mr. Demons was found with one (1) writing utensil and potato chips. However, another inmate on the dorm was found in possession of shanks, prescription drugs and other contraband.
“Despite Mr. Demons not having any relationship with this inmate, Mr. Demons and his attorneys have been restricted from having customary visits due to the discovery of contraband in the possession of the third-party inmate. Over five (5)months have passed, which is more than enough time for the facility housing Mr. Demons to make a determination regarding the allegations set forth in the grievance.”

YNW Melly has faced several hurdles during his time at Broward County. He was denied release after contracting COVID-19 in 2020 and in 2021, he was punished by prison officials for promoting his Just A Moment Of Slime album with an Instagram video. Authorities confiscated his Gucci clothes and denied him access to video visitation for three months for the infraction. Earlier this year, his phone privileges were also revoked again.
Additionally, he contracted an abscess of his tooth due to his diamond grills. While attempting to seek proper dental care, a judge denied his emergency release from prison, despite his lawyer arguing his teeth needed greater care beyond traditional brushing and flossing.
The 23-year-old rapper is currently facing life in prison for the killing of two friends — Anthony Williams (a.k.a. YNW Sakchaser) and Christopher Thomas Jr. (a.k.a. YNW Juvy) — in October 2018. He’s been locked behind bars since 2019 for the murders but maintains his innocence.
