Akademiks found himself at the center of controversy on Wednesday (June 15) when an old audio clip surfaced online. The clip, which was recorded nearly a decade ago, found Akademiks making some questionable comments about underage girls, even though he was approximately just 21 at the time.

“I said, ‘Listen, as long as the chick’s got a college ID, she can get fucked,'” he said. “I don’t care if she’s 17, I don’t care if she’s 17-and-a-half, I don’t care if she just turned 17 and I turned 21, she’s gonna get this dick. That’s on a college level.”

Shortly after Akademiks’ name started trending on Twitter, he hopped over to his Twitch channel where he claimed the clip was taken out of context. Although he admitted what he said “sounds wild,” he said he wasn’t encouraging sex with underage girls.

“What I was trying to say is either you’re 21 or 20 and someone’s like 17— this is only in the college dynamic, right?” he said. “Because they put four years of kids together, just like they do in high school. I said usually there’s not much of difference. When you’re in college, you really don’t see the difference, and I still believe that. Now, of course there are some people who look like kids in college. That’s 100 percent. I’m not talking about those people.”

He continued, “I say that because you don’t ask her age, bro […] In college and high school, you don’t ask her age. You might ask somebody that’s a freshman, but as long as they go to your school, you do not … it’s not that you want somebody under age, you just assume … if it ends up being that, it’s like yeah, that’s not what you wanted to do type shit. I don’t look at it as somebody deliberately looking for kids.”

Akademiks then provided the context for his comments, explaining he was talking about Tyga who dated a 17-year-old Kylie Jenner when he was 24.

“Eight years ago, I was doing a topic on my YouTube that says ‘Tyga Denies Being In A Relationship With Kylie Jenner,'” he continued. “This was when everybody knew Kylie and Tyga was fucking around. Tyga was 24, Kylie was 17, OK? So this is the context, and this is what is important. At no point did I ever say I fucked anybody under 17 or under 18. I was giving an example.

“I said in college, 17 becomes a grey area because people don’t ask for IDs. I was talking about being in an institution — in college or high school — where ages are a little bit out of what is actually acceptable.”

Despite Akademiks’ explanation, Twitter hasn’t stopped roasting the media personality for his transgressions, with some even admitting they’ve been “praying” for his downfall. Others reminded people of his 2018 tweet about Bhad Bhabie in which he wrote she “got mad titties for a 15 year old.” Check out some of the reactions below.
