Danny Brown and JPEGMAFIA are working on a full-length album together, the duo announced at the Smokers Club Festival in San Bernardino, California over the weekend.
During his afternoon set at the Glen Helen Ampitheater on Saturday (April 30), the Detroit native brought out the experimental rapper/producer as a special guest to reveal the news. What’s more, the duo gave fans their first taste of the upcoming project by performing a brand new song together to close out Brown’s set.
“So yeah, Danny Brown and JPEGMAFIA album,” the Bruiser Brigade boss told the crowd after debuting the track. “Y’all just heard the first song, coming soon. Motherfuckers get ready for Peggy and Danny, bitch. I’m out!”
Given their mutual love for experimenting with genres and going against the grain, a Danny Brown and JPEGMAFIA album makes perfect sense on paper. The pair previously collaborated on “Negro Spiritual” from the former’s 2019 album uknowhatimsayin¿, which also featured the JPEGMAFIA-produced “3 Tearz” with Run The Jewels.

Outside of the studio, the Motor City and Maryland natives appear to be pretty good friends. In January, both rappers were special guests during a live taping of comedian Tony Hinchcliffe’s Kill Tony podcast, while in 2020 they teamed up to tackle a Grand Theft Auto V: Online heist during a Rockstar Games livestream.
Aside from a joint album with JPEGMAFIA, Danny Brown recently announced he’s working on a new solo project called Quaranta (which is “forty” in Italian). During an interview with The Needle Drop‘s Anthony Fantano last November, Brown revealed the album was complete and is being mixed by Grammy-winning, Top Dawg Entertainment-affiliated engineer MixedByAli.
The Old rapper expanded on the project while speaking with HotNewHipHop the following month, promising collaborations with “a lot of people” including The Alchemist. “It’s just pretty much like an update of what I’ve been going through the last ten years after XXX,” he said. “It’s going to be fun.”
JPEGMAFIA, meanwhile, built on the success of 2019’s All My Heroes Are Cornballs by releasing his fourth album, LP!, in October 2021. The project — which was available as both an “Online” and “Offline” version — debuted at No. 9 on Billboard’s U.S. Heatseekers Albums chart.
