Los Angeles, CA

A$AP Rocky was seen living it up with his pregnant girlfriend Rihanna in Barbados earlier this week, putting to bed the since-debunked rumors of them breaking up. But their vacation came to an unceremonious end on Wednesday (April 20) when the couple landed back in Los Angeles.

According to NBC Los Angeles, Rocky (real name Rakim Mayers) was detained at Los Angeles International Airport in connection to a November 2021 shooting.

TMZ reports the Harlem-bred rapper was handcuffed by cops after flying into LAX on a private jet and arrested for assault with a deadly weapon on Wednesday morning.

Unbeknownst to the public, A$AP Rocky had been under investigation by the LAPD over a shooting that took place in the Hollywood area on November 6, 2021. The victim of the shooting told police Rocky approached him with a handgun on the street while walking with two other individuals.

The victim claims the A$AP Mob frontman shot him three to four times, with one of the bullets grazing his left hand. The day after the alleged shooting, Rocky performed at ComplexCon 2021 in Long Beach, California, where Rihanna watched from the front row.

A news release issued by the LAPD on Wednesday sheds more light on the alleged incident. “On November 6, 2021, around 10:15 p.m., an argument between two acquaintances occurred in the area of Selma Avenue and Argyle Avenue, in the Hollywood area,” it reads.

“The argument escalated and resulted in the suspect firing a handgun at the victim. The victim sustained a minor injury from the incident and later sought his medical treatment. Following the shooting, the suspect and two additional males fled the area on foot.”

The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for consideration.

This isn’t A$AP Rocky’s first brush with the law while on his travels. In July 2019, the Testing rapper was arrested and charged with assault causing actual bodily harm in Sweden after he and his entourage fought with two men in Stockholm.

Rocky spent most of July behind bars in the Scandinavian country before being released from custody on August 2 following the trial’s conclusion. He was later found guilty of assault and given a suspended sentence and small fine.

“There’s a million things that we could have did, but we decided to walk away,” he said during the highly-publicized trial. “It got a little scary for us. I couldn’t help but assume that these guys were under the influence of some type of drugs.”
