The four-year wait for Pusha T‘s It’s Almost Dry is almost over. Ahead of the release of his new album this Friday (April 22), the Virginia Beach native chopped it up with Rolling Stone to provide further insight into what he’s calling “the album of the muthafucking year.”
The title It’s Almost Dry is another of those esoteric “if you know, you know” (to quote his previous effort DAYTONA) references that are peppered throughout Pyrex P’s coke rap catalog. But for the uninitiated, the former Clipse MC broke down the meaning behind the title, which in typical double entendre fashion also nods to another theme close to his heart.
“I’m always creating a masterpiece and in the creation of that in terms of a painting, you end up telling people while they waiting on it, ‘It’s almost dry,’ because they’re always asking, ‘When will it be done?’” he explained. “And you have to wait on masterpieces.”
He continued, “Also in drug culture, a lot of times you’ll have people waiting on the product and it’s not dry yet. You can come get it when it’s dry.”
Pusha T has served up three tasters of the Kanye West and Pharrell-produced album so far with “Diet Coke,”“Hear Me Clearly” and the JAY-Z-assisted “Neck & Wrist.” But it’s a song the public have yet to hear that he considers a personal standout on the project.

“The title says it all,” he told Rolling Stone of “Just So You Remember Who You Dealin With.” “I never want people to ever forget who they dealin’ with … People have been watching me post [pictures] of my son for 20 months now and they see me calm. But naw, [the song] is about my mentality and mindset. I can tap back in whenever I’m ready and need to.”
On Monday (April 18), Pusha T confirmed It’s Almost Dry‘s April 22 release date via a brief yet poignant trailer that contains a preview of the album cut “I Pray For You” featuring his Clipse brethren No Malice and Labrinth. According to Rolling Stone, the 12-song album also boasts appearances from Kid Cudi, Lil Uzi Vert and Don Toliver.
Thursday (April 21) will see the G.O.O.D. Music president continue his rollout by performing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, a warm-up to the first leg of his It’s Almost Dry Tour, which kicks off in Seattle on May 29.
“I had the best of both worlds in regards to production and in regards to two people that actually understand who I am and they like two different things from me that I feel are both really great,” Pusha T told Charlamagne Tha God of his collaborations with Kanye West and Pharrell on It’s Almost Dry.

“This body of work is untouchable because it doesn’t lean too heavy on either side… you get the whole spectrum. It’s my most well-rounded body of work.”
