2021 HipHopDX Rising Star Blxst has returned with some new tunes. Linking up with Top Dawg Entertainment crooner Zacari, the Cali-bred lyricist dropped “Sometimes” on Thursday (March 3), a bouncy rhythmic track that finds both singers reflecting on the struggles that come with trying to balance fame with a steady home life, a subject Blxst says many should be able to relate to.

“I’m sure everybody can relate,” Blxst said of the track in a statement. “Trying to balance being in the field while making sure home is happy but sometimes it ain’t as pretty as you want it to be.”

Zacari added in his own statement that “Sometimes” was also born out of an uncanny chemistry between the two artists.

“First time I linked up with Blxst was at this studio house in Malibu and we made this song. te first night we met,” Zacari said. “Working with Blxst was hella easy, it was organic we’re both quick on the mic so it flowed. It was tight working with another young west coast singer, we boutta take over R.I.P Nate Dogg.”

The latest single from the 2021 HipHopDX Rising Star comes as the 29-year-old hitmaker has spent most of 2022 on a features kick. He recently linked with Buddy for his new single “Wait Too Long” and previously joined forces with Afrobeats star Fireboy DML for a remix of his hit single “Peru” alongside 21 Savage. He was also a guest star alongside Wale and Murda Beatz on the latter’s new track “One Shot.”

Blxst’s last stand-alone single was 2021’s “About You,” which received the visual treatment in January with a black-and-white music video directed by Alfredo Flores.
