Kanye West’s appearance onDrink Champs is still a topic of conversation weeks later. Aside from addressing his beef with Drake, impending divorce from Kim Kardashian and a bevy of other topics, he gave Beanie Sigel credit for coining the name “Yeezy” and admitted he’d been trying to pay Sigel for his contribution to the Yeezy brand.
Sigel later revealed Kanye once promised him $50 million for coming up with the nickname, saying, “I got a phone call from the muthafucka the other day. He said Sig gon’ get $50 million and a five percent stock in Yeezy. And I don’t know if n-ggas know, Yeezy’s did $1.7 billion last year.”
Now, it looks like Kanye West might’ve finally paid up. On Monday (November 29), photos of Beanie Sigel and Freeway spreading a large stack of $100 bills on their arms hit the internet. Just days earlier, Sigel jokingly said he’s available for “nickname consultation” for a cool $100,000.
Despite Beanie Sigel’s blatant display of wealth, he told TMZ last week he didn’t care about the money.

“I did name him that but as far as his business mind and where he took it, Kanye worked hard for this,” he said. “Kanye don’t owe me nothing. I don’t know if I would take a number. Because you give somebody a fish today, he gon’ eat for the day. If you teach somebody how to fish, he’s gon’ eat forever. He’s gon’ teach his family how to fish.
“I’m not even thinking about a number, but I would love to do some business where I can earn some money ’cause I’m an earner. I never was the type to take just for a handout. My mind is sorta like Kanye’s mind … I think outside the box. I’ve got a lot of business ventures that I think if me and Kanye were to sit down and I had that opportunity to present it to him, it’s some money on the table that I can earn.”
JAY-Z was initially credited with shortening “Kanyeezy” to “Yeezy” in an intro to a 2003 song. Kanye then used the name on the 2007 album Graduation. He eventually named his adidas collaboration Yeezy in 2015.
