The Memphis murder of Paper Route Empire CEO/rapper Young Dolph has gripped the rap community since November 17 when he was gunned down outside of Makeda’s Homemade Cookies. The 36-year-old father of two was in his hometown for his annual turkey giveaway ahead of Thanksgiving.
While Paper Route Empire artist Snupe Bandz surfaced at the giveaway to help keep the tradition alive, fellow labelmate Key Glock kept a low profile.
But now, he’s speaking out on Instagram and letting people know he’s struggling. On Sunday (November 21), Key Glock issued a statement to his Instagram Stories that read, “STOP asking me if I’m ok knowing damn well I ain’t.” He added a heartbreak emoji at the bottom to emphasize the pain he’s experiencing.
Young Dolph signed the 24-year-old to the imprint in 2017, and he’s has worked with Dolph numerous times over the years. In 2019, they teamed up for the Dum and Dummer mixtape, which peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard 200. Needless to say, Key Glock’s grief is understandable. It seems Young Dolph made a significant impact on the people of Memphis.

Rev. Herron, who serves as the pastor of St. James Missionary Baptist Church, was looking forward to having Young Dolph host the turkey giveaway — but he never made it.
“Like everyone else, I knew Young Dolph as a famous rapper,” he told FOX13 Memphis. “But I came to know him as being a very spiritual person. He believed in giving and sharing what the Lord had blessed him with. Faith without works is dead. Dolph believed that with all his heart. He had a desire to show love to his community.”

Young Dolph was shot and killed as he was picking up cookies for his mother at Makeda’s, his favorite bakery. Eyewitnesses said a white Mercedes-Benz pulled up to the shop and opened fire, killing him. Police soon located the vehicle on Bradley Avenue in the Orange Mound neighborhood. But violence has continued to plague the city.

As fans were gathered at a makeshift memorial outside of Makeda’s on November 18, a man was shot nearby and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Three suspects — 23-year-old Terrance Jones, 19-year-old Jailon Nelvis and 22-year-old Tavis McQueen — were later arrested and charged with aggravated assault, evading arrest, reckless endangerment and theft, among other charges.
Another man was fatally shot on Sunday afternoon just a few feet from where the Mercedes-Benz was discovered.
