It’s been quite some time since people got together to enjoy a Hip Hop concert thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic keeping everyone at home. With the world slowly getting back on its feet, Hip Hop artists are wasting no time hitting the road to give their fans the excitement they’ve been waiting over a year for.

Things didn’t seem to go that way for Coi Leray during a recent show, though. A viral video made its rounds on social media where a crowd looks unresponsive to Coi Leray’s performance. The 24-year-old was dragged all over social media for the seemingly unmoving set but she received some support from Nicki Minaj and others.

Now, a concertgoer that was at the show is stepping up in defense of the “No More Parties” rapper. Over the weekend, the girl that appears at the beginning of the video looking unbothered took to social media to explain that Coi Leray’s set wasn’t as bad as people were making it seem.

“Basically, I was just confused,” she said of her deadpan expression at the beginning of the video. “It was really bad timing too, ’cause when she came out on stage, everybody was like real hype, but I guess she started performing her newer songs first and everybody was really like, looking for ‘Big Purr’ and ‘No More Parties,’ so that’s what happened right there. Nobody knew the songs.”

She also explained once Leray performed her two hit singles “No More Parties” and “Big Prr (Prrdd)” featuring Pooh Shiesty, the crowd livened up. Of course, someone on social media asked for proof. The girl shared the clip and although there were a few fans who came to life in the video the energy throughout the arena was still missing.

“I didn’t say it was a rager or nothin’, nothin’ like that man,” said the girl. “I just said it was better than the Mannequin Challenge.”

Coi Leray admitted that she was hurt by the reaction of fans at her show but she has bigger fish to fry. Her debut album is right around the corner, and she was recently nominated for two BET Awards. The “Big Prr (Prrdd)” rapper was nominated for Best New Artist and Best Female Hip Hop Artist at the BET Awards. For the Best New Artist category, Leray is going up against Flo Milli, Giveon, Jack Harlow, Latto, and Pooh Shiesty. For Best Female Hip Hop Artist, Cardi B, Doja Cat, Latto, Megan Thee Stallion, and Saweetie will be taking on Leray for the trophy.
