With a couple of No. 1 singles and several platinum plaques under his belt, Swae Lee doesn’t have the luxury of privacy too often. But during a recent trip to Orlando, Florida, he had the complete opposite experience to his usual encounters as a celebrity.
The Rae Sremmurd rapper took to social media on Saturday (February 27) to share a video of himself sitting in the back of his truck, opposite a woman who had no idea who he was. She asked him a bunch of generic questions ranging from his genre of music to whether he’s on streaming platforms.
“So where you from?” she said. “What kinda music you got going on? What’s the name? Swae Lee? How you spell it? Swae Lee. You on YouTube? Swae Lee? Let me get that Swae Lee mane.”
Swae tried his best to explain who he was, but it wasn’t until he sang Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles” hit that she suddenly realized and started dancing.

“This lady made my whole day,” he wrote on Instagram. “had to sing one of my songs for her. S/o to Ms Nikki and that good soul food.”
“Black Beatles” was one of the biggest songs of 2016 thanks in part to the viral Mannequin Challenge, which earned Rae Sremmurd and Gucci Mane their first No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Swae was in Orlando on Thursday (February 15) for a live performance at the University of Central Florida in front of 600 students. The intimate show was part of the college’s week-long Spring Splash celebration.
While SremmLife 4 with Slim Jxmmi is currently in the works, Swae had a scare to start off 2021. In January, he was involved in a serious car accident with producer Mike WiLL Made-It, in which the Ferrari 812 Superfast they were inside was completely wrecked. Luckily for them, they walked away with only minor injuries.
