Celebrated boxer Floyd Mayweather accepted 50 Cent’s invitation to hop in the ring on Wednesday (February 3), only for the rapper-turned-television mogul to rescind his offer less than 24 hours later.

Par for the course, 50 made sure to throw a jab in Mayweather’s direction via Instagram while promoting his latest book, Hustle Harder Hustle Smarter. As he’s done multiple times in the past, the Get Rich or Die Tryin’ OG mocked Mayweather’s alleged reading struggles and blamed them for the fight’s cancelation.

“The fight is off because Floyd cant read 2 paragraphs of my New York Times best seller (Hustle Harder Hustle Smarter) on IG live.”

The possibility of a 50 Cent versus Floyd Mayweather face-off came up during an interview with Atlanta’s V-105, although 50 was concerned about their weight disparity.

“I’d fight Floyd if I could get down there,” 50 said. “Or he could just let me not have to get down to 150. I could make about 180. He walking around 150, maybe 147.”

Mayweather responded to his rival’s comments on Instagram and confirmed he’d have no problem stepping in the ring with him later this year.

“I also heard that 50 Cent would fight me but claims I’m too small,” he wrote in part. “If he wants to lace up at the end of the year we can do an exhibition then. I don’t care about weight class with any of these guys. The Paul brothers will make great money with the events, but with 50 cent It has to be Winner Takes All.’”

50 has been ridiculing Mayweather’s reading abilities since at least 2014 when he challenged the Olympic bronze medal winner to read a page out of a Harry Potter book.

“Floyd will you except my ALS/ESL CHALLENGE,” he wrote at the time. “I will donate $750k to a charity of your choice, If you can read a full page out of a Harry Potter book out loud without starting and stopping or fucking up. lmao.”

Mayweather defended himself by showing off a check worth millions, writing on Twitter, “Read this $72,276,000.00, God bless.”
