Hip Hop and R&B fans volunteered Chris Brown and Usher to be the next contenders in a Verzuz battle over the weekend. But Brown doesn’t seem interested — and believes he can smoke the Confessions singer any day of the week. Taking to his Instagram Stories on Sunday (July 26), Brown wrote, “I could do a vs off features alone…so I’ll humbly decline…I’m busy doing nothing.”
Verzuz co-founder Timbaland caught wind of Brown’s comment and replied with an Instagram post of his own. He wrote in the caption, “@chrisbrownofficial I got an idea.”
Timbo didn’t further elaborate on what exactly that idea is.
The popular Verzuz Instagram battle series, co-founded by Timbo and Swizz Beatz, has been a popular destination since the coronavirus pandemic kicked off in March. Earlier this month, Apple Music announced the company had teamed up with the two Hip Hop vets to bring Verzuz to an even larger platform.

Episodes will be simulcast live on Apple Music and Beats 1 simultaneously as the Verzuz Instagram Live channel. They will also be exclusively available via Apple Music on-demand following the live stream. Apple Music plans to work alongside Swizz and Timbo to produce new episodes of Verzuz to “continue giving fans a truly premium, high quality shared experience.”
Past matchups have included RZA versus DJ Premier, Erykah Badu versus Jill Scott and Teddy Riley versus Babyface. The most recent battle took place on July 22 and featured Snoop Dogg going up against DMX. The event wasn’t so much the “Battle of the Dawgs” as it was a “unification.”
