Singer-songwriter PJ started building a name for herself writing songs for artists such as Wiz Khalifa, Meek Mill, Ty Dolla $ign, G-Eazy, Usher and Chris Brown, among others.
Despite some serious self-doubt, she ultimately decided to step into the spotlight and emerge as a solo artist.
Now, the Los Angeles-based artist has partnered with Dr. Martens for the iconic footwear company’s music and film series.

“I’m used to working, nothing has ever come easy to me,” PJ tells HipHopDX. “When I finally got signed, I released my first project and I’m thinking everything is going to be great — I’m signed! Then it just didn’t turn out the way I thought it would.
“It felt like I had to keep fighting and each time you get closer to your goals, you have to fight even harder. I love performing and the energy from fans. All I make is come-up music and using it to motivate people is so dope because at the end of the day, I’m a survivor. You just gotta do you at all times.”
As explained in a press release, the idea behind Dr. Martens Presents: Music & Film Series is to “celebrate voices that aren’t generally heard in the mainstream.” The series enlists the talents of Los Angeles-based filmmaker Erik Rojas and New York City-based filmmaker Vincent Martell who help tell the stories of 11 musicians.
