Max B’s imprisonment isn’t stopping him from releasing new music. The incarcerated rapper has dropped a new track titled “Black & I’m Proud,” which is being billed as the lead single for his upcoming album Negro Spirituals.

For Max, the song represents a shift in his work. The Wave God is aiming to create more substantive and thoughtful music going forward.

“It’s about me really evolving as a person, evolving as an artist,” he told Rolling Stone. “My music five or six years ago — even before when I used to make music — it was good, but it lacked the experience I have today. The concept fell into my lap: I’m gonna transform from the old Max B into a powerful new artist with a display of content that they aren’t used to. I’m trying to give the people some substance.”

Biggaveli’s latest solo track arrives after he dropped some collaborations with French Montana earlier this year. The longtime friends teamed up for the Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five-inspired cut “Don’t Push Me” and the Sade flip “Hold On.”
