Detroit, MI

For brotherly R&B duo Ar’mon and Trey, making the jump from YouTube sensations to serious mainstream artists has been fairly seamless. The Detroit-based have made it look easy the way they transitioned from performing viral covers, like their “Moment 4 Life (mash up)”, to go on and release their own original music with last year’s Long Story Short EP and their recent effort “Right Back (Remix)” featuring NBA Youngboy.

As they gear up for a number of releases this summer, Ar’mon and Trey share a sexy new offering titled “Just In Case,” with Alabama rapper Yung Bleu on the assist. The track samples 112’s 1997 hit  “Cupid” and finds a pocket somewhere between a retrospective, feel-good 90s R&B vibe, and new contemporary rhythm and blues.

In a phone interview ahead of the release on Thursday, (May 2) the singers shared some insight on how the song came together, highlighting that the track was headed in a “whole different direction,” before some vital input motivated them to switch things up.

“It was originally a love song and had nothing to do with anything sexual. And then, we invited some girls to the studio and they heard what we had been working on at first and were like, no, we want to hear some pick you up, beat it up,” says Trey.

According to both Ar’mon and Trey, “Just In Case” is a just a sample of what is to come in the future as the new music they plan to release has something for everybody.

“We don’t have a set sound — we make pop, R&B, something for the ladies, something for the fellas — and I think that’s going to be something that distinguishes us from the crowd, how versatile we are,” say Ar’mon.

Detroit, which boasts legendary acts like Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson, to current buzzing rap artists like Big Sean, Kash Doll and more, has a major duality in music history, both past and present, that the guys insist motivates them to become the best version of themselves.

“There’s no pressure for us, we are just trying to be the best artists we can be. We don’t really see it like we have to jump off the porch or compare to the rap acts coming out of the city because that’s another thing — I can’t remember the last blown up singer out of the city,” says Trey.
