West Hollywood, CA

Cardi B was honored with the 2019 Spark Award presented by Swisher Sweets in conjunction with their Artist Project on Friday (April 12).

Every year, the company honors a new artist for going above and beyond in their field. The exclusive invite-only party took place in West Hollywood at the London Hotel’s rooftop.

The newly minted Grammy Award-winning rapper and mother of one, rocked a multi-colored suit, her signature long fingernails and rainbow hair as she prepared to accept her latest achievement.

HipHopDX caught up with Cardi on the red carpet as she revealed life after winning Best Rap Album at the 61st Annual Grammy Award. Released last April, the album would go on to spawn multiple streaming records and earn a place on DX’s 20 Best Female Rap Albums list this March.

HipHopDX: How has life been since winning a Grammy? What’s been different about it?

Cardi B: I don’t know, is there anything different? Pressure. The pressure definitely. ‘Cause it’s like, ‘Gotdamn, if [Invasion of Privacy] won a Grammy, that means I got to go in on this second album. So it’s just been a little bit, a lot of pressure. A lot of mediating, but it makes me feel good. It makes me feel proud of myself.

DX: We see you have some new piercings, did those hurt?

Cardi: I just re-pierced my tongue because I be bored and I like certain kinds of pains. I enjoy certain pains, I do.

The superstar rapper later took to the stage to accept her Spark Award and laid out her career success blueprint.

“I want to thank y’all for giving me this Spark Award,” she told the crowd. “You want to know something? A lot of people be asking, why her? [Laughs]. ‘Cause bitch I worked for it, the fuck you mean? And make sure you got that spark, you know what I’m saying.

“There’s a lot of bitches that are prettier than me, they got more money than me, they got a fatter ass than me but they ain’t got that spark, you know what I’m saying, bitches, don’t got that vibe.”

As of press time, Invasion of Privacy‘s follow-up is still without an official release date.
