To kick off Black History Month 2019, it is being revealed that a veteran MC will have an instrumental hand in detailing the life of one of America’s greatest writers.
Willie the Kid, one of DJ Drama’s original artists, has just signed on as a producer for the upcoming documentary, I Too Sing America: Langston Hughes Unfurled.
The film is slated for a 2020 release through PBS’ American Masters Series where Willie, his business partner Jonathan Jelks (pictured above on the L and BlakkKlansmen co-writer Kevin Willmott will highlight the poetry, novels, playwrights, social activism and of course, the Harlem Renaissance, that Hughes helped influence much of what we still revere about the arts to this very day.
“As an African American Writer and creative, my inspiration stems from the legacy of Langston Hughes,” Willie The Kid states today (February 1) on what would have been the late poet’s 117th birthday.
