The 61st Annual Grammy Awards took place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday (February 10) and Hip Hop led the charge this year.
Kendrick Lamar was up for eight nominations in categories such as Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Rap Performance thanks to his work on Black Panther.
Elsewhere, Drake was up for seven awards, while Cardi B was nominated in five categories.
Childish Gambino won the gilded trophy in the Best Music Video and Record Of The Year categories for “This Is America” and Black Panther grabbed an award in the Best Score Soundtrack For Visual Media category.

The nominations for the 61st Annual Grammy Awards have arrived — and Hip Hop undeniably leads the charge. This time, the number of nominees in the four general fields has expanded from five to eight in an attempt to have more diversity.
Thanks to his work on the Black Panther soundtrack, Kendrick Lamar has racked up eight nominations in categories such as Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Rap Performance.
Drake is right behind him with seven nominations, including Album of the Year for his latest album Scorpion. Meanwhile, Cardi B continues her monumental rise to fame with five nominations for Record of The Year, Album of the Year, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Album and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

The late Mac Miller also received a posthumous nomination for his last project Swimming in the Best Rap Album category, while newcomer Tierra Whack’s inventive video for “Mumbo Jumbo” is nominated in the Video of the Year category alongside Beyoncé and JAY-Z, Childish Gambino, Joyner Lucas and Janelle Monáe.
The 2019 Grammys will be broadcast by CBS from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 10.
