Iggy Azalea has inked a new contract following her split with Island Records. The platinum-selling artist announced a distribution deal with EMPIRE as she begins life outside the major label system.
“So today’s the day!” she tweeted on Tuesday (November 20). “I’m officially announcing my new label will be distributed via EMPIRE. So satisfying to be able to keep everything about this new chapter 100% indie. Bring on 2019!!!”
Azalea’s EMPIRE announcement comes a few days after she hinted at the deal on Twitter. Last Thursday (November 15), she said the deal was for $2.7 million and allowed her to own her masters.
“Proud to say I literally just signed my new deal/partnership!” she wrote. “2.7mil, can sign others, own my masters + 100% independent – I’m feeling like such a bossy grown ass bitch today! Time to get back to ME. I’m so grateful & excited… Cheers!”

She added, “I OWN MY OWN MASTERSSSSS bitchhhhhhhhh turn the fuck up! I suddenly love streaming platforms.”
Azalea departed Island Records earlier this month. The Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping rapper originally signed with Island Def Jam in 2013 before the label was split back into Island Records, Motown Records and Def Jam Recordings in 2014.
“I’m officially unsigned !!!!” she announced on November 3. “Wild you spend so long trying to get IN a record deal… never thought I’d be so elated to be OUT of one. now I’m free to release whatever kinda music I like, whenever I’d like woooo!”
Her last release for Island, August’s Survive The Summer EP, marked a dramatic downturn from her breakthrough album The New Classic. After peaking at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 with her debut LP, Azalea’s latest project only managed to reach No. 144.
