As the 30th anniversary for their instant classic album Long Live the Kane approaches next week (June 28), the Golden Era tandem of Big Daddy Kane and DJ Mister Cee prove they still got the juice by partaking in Funk Flex’s ever-reliable Hot 97 Freestyle Series.
With Cee on the 1’s and 2’s, Kane was his usual punchline-laden self (“And you know there’s always some a-hole/Who look at us like, ‘They old!’/He ain’t selling records like JAY[-Z] so/But I’m trying to reach the KOD, J. Cole!”) and even broke down an acapella at the end of the flow.
Released in 1988, the Marley Marl-produced album has been renown as a classic and credited with being on the forefront of catchy/clever Hip Hop that paved the way for the likes of the JAY-Zs, J. Coles and Pusha Ts of the future. DJ Mister Cee also had his own track dedication on “Mister Cee’s Master Plan.”
