Los Angeles, CA

The architects behind Low End Theory, the weekly Hip Hop night at The Airliner in Los Angeles, have revealed their 12-year run is coming to an end.

On Wednesday (June 6), Low End Theory issued a statement via Instagram announcing the final 10 shows, which will culminate on August 8.

“The journey has not been without its challenges,” the post reads. “It is therefore with a sense of sadness that we are announcing our last ten shows … There are several factors affecting this decision. Family obligations. Work demands. Life.

“The general consensus amongst the residents is that we have overstayed our welcome, and our greatest hope now is that the final ten weeks of Low End Theory can serve as a time for the beat community to set aside our differences, come together, and hopefully remember what made Low End Theory a special place to begin with: the music.”

Co-founded in October 2006 by Alpha Pup label head Daddy Kev, DJ Nobody and The Gaslamp Killer, Low End Theory has hosted a revolving roster of experimental Hip Hop artists over the years. It helped launch the careers of Flying Lotus, The Glitch Mob and Nosaj Thing.

“We all knew it had to come to an end one day, and we wanted to control how and when we ended the weekly club,” D-Styles tells HipHopDX. “I feel sad that it’s gonna end and I’ll truly miss playing music for a crowd that was so open-minded and hungry to hear new stuff.

“I think what I’ll truly miss is the friendships that I made over the last 11 years, especially with Daddy Kev and DJ Nobody. Seeing those guys every Wednesday was my outlet for jokes and listening to good music. I’m just blessed I was part of it all.”

With The Beat Junkies Institute of Sound in full swing, D-Styles will continue writing his next chapter.
