The Internet appeared on Sway In The Morning this week to reveal the July 20 release date of their Hive Mind album and drop knowledge on their next tour.
While speaking on their new single “Roll (Burbank Funk),” Syd explained how they collectively chose the beats for that particular song and other records. She revealed the beat for “Roll (Burbank Funk),” which was produced by fellow group member Patrick Paige II, was one they all agreed on.
“We’ll sit on it and then we just keep making stuff,” Syd said when asked what happens when the group doesn’t agree on a beat. “And [Patrick] brought that in the very early stages of the album making process. So, we were just sitting on beats. And we all kinda gravitate towards the same ones, thankfully.”
In regards to the Hive Mind title, The Internet’s Matt Martians explained it was inspired by a number of factors, including the internet itself and a group of psychics from a Marvel comic book.

“It’s actually very simple,” he said. “If you Google what hive mind means it’s basically just a collective ego, a collective mind. When people that are together they have a collective mindset. And I think when we’re together we all have a common goal. And we move in the same direction. So, it’s really that simple. And the internet is a hive mind of information. The actual internet. So, it kinda just has multiple reasons. And you know what’s funny? I got it from Marvel comics … It’s like a group in the comic books that are collective psychics that are super powerful when they’re together.”
And for fans eager to get their live fix of The Internet, Syd revealed that a tour can be expected “later in the year.”
