Following Fredo Santana’s sudden death on Friday (January 19), the Chicago rapper’s father, who goes by Big Shug, took to Instagram to express his sadness regarding what he called, “THE WORST DAY OF MY LIFE.”
On Sunday (January 21), Big Shug wrote a series of emotional tributes for his son (real name Derrick Coleman), one of which came with a photo of Santana as a kid.
“I don’t know where to begin,I’m a father of 6,not the best father in the world but i have Always been there,” he wrote. “now Derrick was my second born named after my mentor my oldest brother,this is truly coming from my heart for I’m a lost for words.I wanna thank my wife for picking up of the floor cause I couldn’t stand.
“I wanna thank my family for showing what we are about,” he continues. “next I would like thank my sons true friends in the industry for showing your support,& next I did not know the magnitude of souls & hearts my son had reached until today,I wanna thank all the fans,friends & family that I just couldn’t reach personally,thank y’all for everything.”

Once the news hit that Santana had passed away at the age of 27 from a reported fatal seizure, countless fans and peers took to social media to express their condolences, including Drake, Travis Scott, Lil B and Joey Bada$$.
