Atlanta, GA

T.I. and Killer Mike are among the people who have been announced as members of Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms’ transition team.

The 38-strong team was revealed in a news conference held Thursday morning (January 11), and also includes Tony Award-winning director Kenny Leon, educator Ron Clark, UPS Chairman and CEO David Abney, and Delta Air Lines CEO Edward Bastian.

“It represents a tremendous amount of diversity and depth and really the best and the brightest in the City of Atlanta,” Bottoms said.

The team will advise the mayor on a range of issues concerning the City of Atlanta, including crime, affordable housing, and improving the city’s education system.

“I really want them to come with fresh ideas and to bring to me their recommendations for best practices in the City of Atlanta based on their varied experience and backgrounds,” Bottoms said. “That’s why it was important for us to have representations across communities in Atlanta. But really what we are seeking is to make sure that we attract the best talent in this city and that we are forward thinking and not just thinking about whatever the issues are that we are facing today.”

T.I., who supported Bottoms in the election, reacted to the news in a statement to HipHopDX. “I’m truly humbled to work alongside Mayor Bottoms and the city, to help address the needs of our community and keep Atlanta moving forward,” he said.

Killer Mike was quick to shut down a Twitter user who questioned the appointment of T.I. considering his previous run-ins with the law.
