Talib Kweli and Dave Chappelle’s long-standing friendship has put the veteran MC in him the company of the rich, which only happens when he’s with the legendary comedian.
On last Wednesday’s (October 26) episode of Desus & Mero, Kweli shared one of those stories in which he ended up at a party in The Hamptons where Rod Stewart just so happened to be performing.
As the story goes, Chappelle, Kweli, Chris Rock and RZA were all were in Q-Tip’s studio while the latter was working on A Tribe Called Quest’s album. Chappelle was explaining to everyone that Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels wanted him to host the show. The comedian said he wouldn’t do it unless A Tribe Called Quest performed. So, at the suggestion of Chris Rock, they called Michaels and the rest was history.
“Me and Dave got in the helicopter, and we went to Lorne Michaels house in the Hamptons,” the Black Star member told the hosts. “I stayed in the guest house. Long story short, I stayed at his crib. It was Labor Day weekend I think …I went to the party and Rod Stewart was performing at the party. Lorne Michaels took us to this party.”

Apparently, the legendary rock star had his whole band and background singers with him while he performed some of his most popular hits. Kweli couldn’t believe it.
Ultimately, Chappelle did end up getting his way. He made an appearance on SNL last November with A Tribe Called Quest in tow, dedicating their performance to the late Phife Dawg.
