With the arrival of the Tupac Shakur biopic All Eyez On Me in movie theaters nationwide, fans and critics alike have chimed in, including those who knew the fallen rapper well. Jada Pinkett Smith, an old friend of 2Pac, took to Twitter Friday blasting the film, which prompted the film’s producer, L.T. Hutton, to respond in kind.

Hutton spoke exclusively with TMZ regarding Smith’s stance on the film, which she said was “deeply hurtful” and misrepresented one of her closest friendships. Hutton, saying he was “disappointed, hurt” by Smith’s response, explained to the outlet that he and filmmakers took liberties to add certain elements but did so based on what they said 2Pac’s legacy could and should have been.

“I created the Holy Trinity,” he said. “It’s who Tupac was, who he wanted to be and who he had to be to survive the world that he was introduced into.”

Further, Hutton said that friends of Smith who have seen the film relayed their approval of the depiction of events and was even under the impression that Smith herself was fine with the final product.
