SZA’s long-awaited debut album, CTRL, dropped on Friday (June 9) amid heavy anticipation and swift discussion on social media. The 26-year-old R&B starlet’s first week sales are hovering between 35,000 to 45,000, with a good number of units moving in the traditional brick and mortar fashion.
According to a report from HITS Daily Double, the Top Dawg Entertainment singer’s second project for the label can possibly sell between 17,000 to 20,000 units from retail sources. SZA’s previous release for TDE was the Z EP, which debuted at #39 on the Billboard 200 charts when it dropped in 2014.
The week’s big winner appears to be Katy Perry with her fifth studio record, Witness, projected to move between 200,00 to 225,000 copies. The album is bolstered by the Migos-assisted “Bon Appetit,” which stirred up some measurable but ultimately false controversy in the past few weeks.
