The inimitable Ice Cube stopped by The Late Late Show with James Corden on Tuesday (May 16), where he sat down with the British host and singer Jason Derulo to discuss music, Cube’s BIG3 basketball league and movies. During the interview, the West Coast gangster rap pioneer, who appeared to be completely blazed, confirmed that a new installment of the Friday film series is on the way.
“We’re working on one right now,” Cube said, according to Billboard. “We’re gonna call it Last Friday.”
Derulo, who is apparently a huge N.W.A and Friday fan, also expressed his feelings toward the 1995 original. “Friday was one of my favorite movies of all time,” Derulo said. “Literally I would watch it every single Friday, it was that serious.”
Later in the interview, Cube opened up about his inexperience in the studio when recording his first album, while Derulo did his best impression of Michael Jackson’s dance moves. Cube then showed Corden how he gets down on the basketball court.
Last Friday follows the O.G. version’s subsequent sequels, 2000’s Next Friday and 2002’s Friday After Next. His co-star John Witherspoon, who played Cube’s father (Mr. Jones) in the first two installments, broke the news about a fourth movie last month. However, Cube had been mum on it until now.
