Los Angeles, CA

Still fresh off the May 5 release of his Everybody album and predicted to dethrone Kendrick Lamar from the #1 spot on the Billboard 200, Logic premiered his new documentary at The Wiltern in Los Angeles on Wednesday night (May 10). HipHopDX had the pleasure of attending the screening, which was followed by a Q&A panel with the filmmakers.

Joined by directors Justin Fleischer and Mike Holland, Logic first took questions from the fans. One fan asked a question we all wanted answered: Why was his next album (already titled Ultra 85) going to be his last?

Logic explains, “One thing I can say regarding this, and I’m glad you asked this, is it’s gonna be celebratory. It’s not going to be the last time I make music. All my fans who really appreciate me, and they’re going to follow me on this journey. Actually we’re going to hold hands together, whether it’s acting or writing novels, movies, anything.”

It looks like Rap Larry David will be focusing his efforts on acting.

“So I want you guys to follow me beyond, because Ultra 85 will make eight, you can call them mixtapes if you want, but eight albums. Eight projects over eight years. And now I’m excited to go to the next round of entertainment, on the big screen.”

Another fan asked which track off Everybody took the longest, to which Logic answered, “1-800-273-8255,” which features Alessia Cara and Khalid.

“Not to get hella deep right now, but the reason 1-800 took me the longest is because it’s a song I didn’t want to talk about or do. I’ve had a lot of people in my life very close with me deal with suicide, and overcome it, which is an amazing thing. And that’s always very hard.”

He even compared it to his hit single “Nikki” off 2014’s Under Pressure.

“You know what? It was like ‘Nikki.’ I didn’t want to make ‘Nikki.’ And that’s how I know it’s going to be good. If I hate the song, it’s gonna be a great fucking song. And obviously I don’t hate the song. But I mean, cause I have to put myself in that dark place. Because I’m very blessed and right now in my life, I’m so happy. But because I love my fans, and fucking — people — I took myself and put myself there, as if I wanted to take my own life, just so that I could create an anthem for those who hopefully won’t.”

The same fan who asked the question gave Logic a pair of custom-made Jordans.

Oh, and if you wondered why “Anziety” is spelled with a “z” on the album, the explanation is simple. His producer, 6ix, was typing so fast, he misspelled “anxiety.” Logic thought it looked cool, so they kept it.
