A former Uber employee-turned-whistleblower is claiming that employees of the popular ride share service used company technology to spy on Houston superstar Beyonce and a host of other high-profile users.
According to The Guardian, a former Uber forensic investigator by the name of Samuel Ward Spangenberg warned the company about the lack of security, and is further calling out the company in a lawsuit.
In addition to accusing Uber of age discrimination in his lawsuit, Spangenberg is also claiming whistleblower retaliation, after he was fired 11 months after warning the company about their alleged security issues.
In a court testimony from October of this year, Spangenberg alleged that Uber employees used a tool called “God View” to spy on “high-profile politicians, celebrities and even personal acquaintances of Uber employees, including ex-boyfriends/girlfriends, and ex-spouses.”

Beyonce is reportedly among the celebrities whose movements were monitored via “God View.”
The company issued a statement about the claims, saying Uber “continues to increase our security investments and many of these efforts, like our multi-factor authentication checks and bug bounty program, have been widely reported. We have hundreds of security and privacy experts working around the clock to protect our data. This includes enforcing to authorised employees solely for purposes of their job responsibilities, and all potential violations are quickly and thoroughly investigated.”
It is currently unclear if any additional legal action will be taken against Uber, following Spangenberg’s “God View” claims.
