Standing Rock, ND

After a months-long battle over the route of the Dakota Access pipeline, the Army Corps of Engineers yesterday (December 4) denied a permit for the pipeline to be built near the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation that threatened the people’s water supply, according to NPR.

Thousands had protested the construction alongside the Native Americans who claimed their land was being intruded upon. Vic Mensa was among those who camped out and showed support as he chronicled the events on his social media.

Hip Hop celebrated the victory for the Sioux people. Alicia Keys and Common shared a drawing by Rick Frausto with a Native American saying attributed to the Cree Indians.

Several others shared their excitement on Twitter.
