Cleveland, OH

History was made last night (November 2) when the Chicago Cubs won the World Series by beating the Cleveland Indians 8-7. In an epic 10-inning Game 7, they shattered an 108-year championship drought that haunted them for generations.

The Cubs had looked to get the victory with the score reading 6-3 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning. Then Cleveland’s Brandon Guyer smacked a double that scored a run and Rajai Davis had a two-run homer to tie the game.

After a rain delay that made the game even more historic, Chicago scored two runs with a double from Ben Zobrist and a single from Miguel Montero.

The Indians threatened a comeback with an RBI single from Davis, but Cubs pitcher Mike Montgomery relieved Carl Edwards Jr. to get Michael Martinez for a ground out to end the game and the Chicago was forever changed.

The Indians had jumped ahead 3-1 in the series before the Cubbies rallied back to force a Game 7 in the Ohio city. Some drew parallels to the NBA Finals when the Golden State Warriors went up 3-1 before blowing the lead to allow LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers to take home the title. King James and teammate J.R. Smith were in attendance cheering on their Indians, but were disappointed with the rest of the city.

You could feel the tension build from the Twitter reactions throughout the night.

Then Chicago won and the Windy City rejoiced! Common had previously encouraged everyone in his hometown, including Chicago White Sox fans, to root for the Cubs. Twista, Lupe Fiasco, Vic Mensa, Chance The Rapper and more joined in the celebration.

While Cleveland … not so much. Stalley took the L with grace while Krayzie Bone expressed what probably most fans were thinking, hold the jokes, please.
