While doing an interview with The Breakfast Club, Saturday Night Live cast member Pete Davidson discussed his struggles with depression and suicidal thoughts. The 22-year-old revealed that during his teens, listening to Kid Cudi’s 2009 debut album, Man On The Moon, prevented him from committing suicide.

“I would’ve killed myself,” Davidson confessed. “Absolutely 100 percent. I truly believe if ‘Man On The Moon’ didn’t come out, I wouldn’t be here.”

Cudi, who checked himself into rehab for depression and suicidal urges last month, has obviously been wrestling with demons of his own, but Davidson assured listeners he would have still gravitated toward Cudi’s music even if he knew he was considering taking his own life.

“If you’re 25 and under, I truly believe that Kid Cudi saves lives,” he said. When Charlamagne expressed concern for Cudi’s well-being, Davidson quickly chimed in.

“He’s getting help now and he’s doing really well right now. I’ve been in and out of things like that, and I think that’s why a lot of kids my age can relate to Cudi and people love him so much … He’s a very emotional dude, and he saves all of us.”

The comedic actor and Cudi recently worked together on promos for Davidson’s upcoming Comedy Central stand-up special, SMG. He also admits he’d been in touch with Cudi as recently as last week and confirmed he’s “in really good spirits.”
