Orlando, FL

Grammy Award-winning rapper Kid Cudi has plans on changing the Hip Hop community’s attitude towards the LGBT community, in light of the mass shooting that occurred at gay nightclub Pulse Sunday (June 12) in Orlando.

Being labeled as one of the worst of its kind in American history, the attack left 49 dead and 53 others injured.

The gunman, 29-year-old Omar Mateen, who claimed allegiance to the Islamic State over a 911 call, also died.

Another possible attack was intercepted in Los Angeles this weekend, when a man was arrested for having guns and explosives on his person while on the way to LA Pride festivities.

“My heart and prayers go out to the LGBT community and everyone affected by this tragedy,” Kid Cudi tweeted. “Really upset today. I wish there was more I could do than tweet, build awareness and donate money. Thats not enough. Not for me.”

A fan let him know that he could encourage heterosexual people in the Orlando area to give blood.

Although he did just that, Kid Cudi is taking his plans to help out the LGBT community even further by challenging the Hip Hop community to be more supportive.

“The Hip Hop community is the least outspoken about gay rights and Ima go out my way to change that,” the  Man On The Moonrapper tweeted.

Fans and celebrities reacted to Cudi‘s display of empathy towards the LGBT community. Some threatened he’d lose a fan and others are with him 100%.

“What Cudi said,” Taylor Gang’s Ty Dolla $ign tweeted in solidarity.

Cudi has a simple solution for anyone who has a problem with his new movement.

“IF YOU ARE AN INSECURE HOMOPHOBE AND HAVE A ISSUE WITH GAYS AND EQUALITY, UNFOLLOW ME NOW. THANK YOU,” Cudi tweeted.

Hip Hop has a sordid history with homophobia that goes all the way back to its roots. As of late, many of Hip Hop’s biggest stars have spoken out against how LGBT people are treated. Kanye West asked for a ban on the word “fag” nearly 10 years ago.

The always obnoxiously outspoken Azealia Banks, who herself identifies as bisexual, even vowed to remove the word from her vocabulary after catching heat for comparing the LGBT community to the KKK.

Hip Hop acts such as Nicki Minaj, Lil B, A$AP Rocky and Jay Z have all been longtime public supporters of gay rights.

Kid Cudi‘s plans to implement this change is still in the works.
