On Tuesday, December 1, the Chicago community came out to support M.U.R.A.L’s second annual bake off. Formerly known as the Lupe Fiasco Foundation, M.U.R.A.L (Magnifying Urban Realities and Affecting Lives) raises funds for its Food Justice Program. The program provides healthy food and education in food deserts throughout Chicago. The event coincided with the nationwide celebration #GivingTuesday and was hosted at Soho House Chicago.
The battle of the baked goods took place between team Lupe versus team Idonije. Lupe Fiasco’s team included Top Chef’s Desserts Season 1’s chef Malika Ameen, M.U.R.A.L board member Cyrus Rad and Mama Fiasco. Israel Idonije’s team included Brown Sugar Bakery’s Stephanie Hart, Steve Harvey’s chef Judson Todd Allen and artist Shala. Celebrity judges, along with the audience, voted on the pastries and chose team Idonije’s caramel and sweet potato pie as the winner.
“We really felt good about tonight,” said Stephanie Hart. “From my little bakery and 75 people to tonight, it was just a really fun thing.”
Mama Fiasco recognized the importance of organizations like M.U.R.A.L in making the city a better place.

“In our neighborhoods we can’t get the fresh vegetables/the fresh produce. People don’t eat properly, kids go hungry, so they’re trying to lessen that gap.”
