Rich Homie Quan received criticism earlier this year for two leaked tracks in which he raps about raping women. Since then, the Atlanta rapper has apologized for the lyrics.
In a recent interview with XXL, Rich Homie Quan details the lessons he learned from the incident.
“The biggest lesson I learned, watch what I do,” he says. “Watch what I say because the whole world’s watching. So I just try to watch how I move and when I move, move like the president.”
Rich Homie Quan says that his debut album is finished and includes features from Lil Wayne, Jadakiss and Ashanti. He says he hopes for the album to be out by year’s end but explains why he is holding back on the release.

“I wanna give the streets some more free music before I drop my debut album to show them that I’m ready,” he says.
The rapper says that the album will be released independently because of the artistic and financial freedom. He cites the success of “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” as part of his reasoning to remain independent.
“You get your own money,” he says. “You control your own destiny. You don’t have to answer to anyone. You do want you wanna do…I’ve been very excited about the success of ‘Flex’ because now I get to enjoy my own platinum plaque by myself. I’ve had numerous of them, but it’s always a feature.
“If I can keep dropping platinum singles, I ain’t even got to drop no album,” he continues. “I just keep living off the platinum singles. It’s so hard to sell an album, make an album go platinum these days. Nobody wants failure. So if I can keep dropping platinum singles, I’m not even worried about an album.”
