Empire writers Carlito Rodriguez and Malcolm Spellman have been hired to write a movie script focusing on the life of Sylvia Robinson, co-founder of Sugar Hill Records, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Warner Bros. is behind the project, which is slated to cover the time surrounding the release of the first rap singles.

In 1979, Sugar Hill Records released Sugarhill Gang’s “Rapper’s Delight,” the second rap single released and the first to garner mainstream success. The first Rap record released was The Fatback Band’s “King Tim III (Personality Jock),” which was also released in 1979.

Sugar Hill’s roster also included Grandmaster Flash And The Furious Five and the Treacherous Three, among others.
