In honor of reaching one million subscribers, the music streaming service TIDAL celebrated the milestone with a star-studded concert at Brooklyn, New York’s Barclays Center, yesterday (October 20).
Among the artists who performed at the TIDAL X: 10/20 show were Jay Z, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, Usher, Nick Jonas, T.I., and Damian Marley.
With so many artists scheduled to perform at the show, the New York Times reports that TIDAL X: 10/20 played out like “an old-fashioned telethon” due to “severely truncated sets.”
“For the most part, the stars came out, put in their few minutes, then disappeared — the night played like an old-fashioned telethon,” the New York Times’ Jon Caramanica wrote. “Maybe that’s why the performances from the show that were broadcast later in the night on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ were more impressive: Sweeping cameras and strong editing can do wonders.”

A performance from Nicki Minaj and Beyonce proved to be one of the highlights of the night. The pair performed their “Feeling Myself” record for the first time, according to Miss Info.
Although the concert included performances from a number of musical guests, one headliner in particular was a no-show. According to NME, Prince backed out of the show at the last minute for unknown reasons.
The website also reports that during the concert, Damian Marley was announced as one of TIDAL’s newest artist-owners.
100 percent of the ticket proceeds from TIDAL X: 10/20 will reportedly go to the New World Foundation.
