As a reward for their efforts and in celebration of the youth volunteer movement, Boost Mobile RockCorps staged a free concert featuring Kanye West, T.I. , Young Jeezy, Fat Joe, Remy Ma, The LOX, and others at Radio City Music Hall Saturday night. Lil’ Jon and Nick Cannon co-hosted the landmark event, produced exclusively for the 5,000 volunteers who contributed four hours of volunteer service at one of 75 Boost Mobile RockCorps projects throughout New York.
Blink-182’sTravis Barker and DJ AM opened the show with an excellent display of stick tricks blended with DJ turn tablism. After Paul Wall spit a few hits, Kanye West joined him onstage, performing “Gold Digger.” Next up, Slim Thug, followed by Faith Evans. Then Blink-182’s Travis Barker and bucket drummer Jared traded 16’s, eventually banging their way into Fabolous’ “Breathe.”F-A-B-O’s set was electrifying and attendees sang along to every song. The LOX were surprise guests, followed by Fat Joe, Remy Ma and the whole Terror Squad rocking their faves, including “Lean Back”. Newcomer Young Jeezy was also a favorite among the young audience, and T.I. and his PSC closed the show with crowd-pleasers “Bring ‘Em Out” and “U Don’t Know Me.”
RockCorps and Boost Mobile joined forces to launch Boost Mobile RockCorps, a groundbreaking national extension of the RockCorps program. The partnership is exposing young people to simple ways they can proactively contribute to their community through volunteerism while having fun. In exchange for contributing four hours of community service work, youth volunteers receive tickets to popular music concerts in their area.
