Dr. Dre says that Universal Pictures, which is releasing the N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton August 14, played a pivotal role in properly presenting the group.

“They understood that we wanted to protect our legacy and they really paid attention to that,” Dr. Dre said prior to the world premiere of Straight Outta Compton at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles yesterday (August 10).

The film shot in some of the same areas in Los Angeles county in which N.W.A members Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Eazy-E, MC Ren and DJ Yella were raised. Dr. Dre expressed gratitude at the premiere for the hospitality shown while the film was on location throughout Los Angeles County.

“I also want to thank all the neighborhoods that we went in during all the filming of this movie: South Central, Watts, Compton,” the rapper-producer says. “They showed us so much love and support. There was no way that we would be able to make this movie without that love and support. So I want to say thank you to all of you guys those that looked out for us when we went to these dark areas and these neighborhoods.”
