Dr. Dre announced Detox, his third and final album, in January of 2002 and said it was initially meant to be a project inspired by the film Training Day, starring Denzel Washington and directed by Antoine Fuqua.
A year later, the Aftermath founder explained that Detox had been pushed back because of work on 50 Cent’s debut album.
“Dre divulges to XXL exactly how much the signing of 50 Cent and G-Unit has changed plans for Detox,” the story says, “explaining he gave the project’s best beats to the Get Rich or Die Tryin’ album.”
More details about Detox emerged from Scott Storch, Snoop Dogg and Eminem throughout the years.

The album was supposedly delayed so that Dr. Dre could work on projects for 50 Cent, Eminem and The Game.
Multiple songs from the album leaked and Dr. Dre released two official singles, “Kush” and “I Need a Doctor.”
The timeline ends in October of 2012 when 50 Cent said Detox was going to be an EP.
The project replacing Detox is Compton: A Soundtrack By Dr. Dre. It is inspired by the forthcoming N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton and scheduled to be released tomorrow (August 7).
