In an interview with VladTV published today (July 27), Charlamagne credits Nicki Minaj for revitalizing female Hip Hop and inspiring the new assemblage of female rappers today.
“You got to give Nicki her props for revitalizing that genre because there was probably a whole crop of girls six, seven years ago who were thinking about getting into music but probably thought it was real male-dominated,” The Breakfast Club host says of the “Anaconda” rapper.
“It wasn’t really any female emcees, popping popping like that except for the OGs, so when Nicki came out and Nicki had real success, I’m sure she inspired all of these girls we see now,” he continues.
Charlamagne names DeJ Loaf, who Nicki gave a nod to at the 2015 BET Awards and is also one of the opening acts for Nicki Minaj’s “The Pinkprint Tour,” as one of the female rappers who may have been inspired by Nicki Minaj’s career.

He also names Tink, Snow Tha Product, Detroit Che, Nyemiah Supreme and Brianna Perry as a few of his favorites.
Charlamagne says he feels female Hip Hop is in a great space. “I just think that we are in a really dope time,” he says. “Female Hip Hop is really popping right now.”
