Rick Rock has been around in Hip Hop for a while and has produced numerous hits primarily during the early 2000s.

Recently sitting down with HipHopDX, the Fairfield, California native spoke about one of those hits and explained how Busta Rhymes’ “I Know What You Want” was originally meant for Jagged Edge.

“[Busta Rhymes told me] ‘You don’t know how much you saving me with this record,’ he said when asked about the instrumental via a segment of today’s DX Daily. “‘Cause I originally gave the beat to Jagged Edge and Jermaine Dupri and them niggas was bullshitting to keep it 100 with you. So I told Busta, ‘JD got this record right now but if he don’t get with me within two weeks, my nigga, it’s yours. Two weeks came, they [were still] bullshitting and I gave it to [Busta] and he just let me know how much it helped him out with what he was going to do. That’s the only time anybody ever really… except Jay Z saying he going to make me a star. [He was like], ‘I’m going to make you a star [laughs].'”

Rick Rock also relayed how just experiencing Hip Hop at the highest level was a treat for him.

“You don’t know until it happens,” he recalled. “To me, the dopest part was doing it. Getting flown out and meeting Busta and him telling me stories and us talking about Hip Hop. That is that shit to me: Kind of starting to feel like you’re in it really… Those moments are really big to me.”
