With his sophomore album, At. Long. Last. A$AP due out in less than two weeks, A$AP Rocky’s cover story with Billboard is set to be released today. Ahead of the full story being published the magazine let loose a preview online yesterday that includes commentary from collaborators Mark Ronson and Danny Brown as well as insight from the man himself.

Explaining how Rocky’s eclectic taste in music surprised him, Ronson hinted at some of the influences that show up on At. Long. Last. A$AP. “[When I asked him if he’d heard of Tame Impala] he looked at me like I was crazy,” Ronson said. “[He] proceeded to play me a chopped-and-screwed remix that he made of [the band’s] ‘Feels Like We Only Go Backwards.’ He played me a lot of amazing music that I had never heard of.”

“We’re both into a lot of obscure things that guys from our environment aren’t normally into,” Danny Brown said separately. “What I love about him is he doesn’t care what anyone thinks. He knows what he wants and doesn’t compromise for anyone.”

As for his take one of the more critically-acclaimed albums of the year, Rocky admitted to only skimming through Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly. “I got about two songs I liked,” he said.

Touching on the passing of his close friend A$AP Yams earlier this year, Rocky also said that he’s in the process of finishing an album the deceased A$AP founder was working on before his death. “He left his notebooks, he left his blueprint,” Rocky said. “His album’s f–ing incredible. I want to finish what he started.”
