While appearing on the Sway SXSW Takeover radio show, Inglewood, California rapper Skeme spoke on his work as a ghostwriter. The musician remained relatively tight-lipped about his ghostwriting, but did reveal that he receives writers publishing and has received certificates and plaques for his work, but has yet to receive a Grammy award.
He later fessed up to having “something to do with” Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX’s “Fancy” record.
“Come on, man. That’s what the ghost is about,” Skeme said when asked who he’s ghostwritten for. “You just know he exists…I got cool, little certificates and shit, but I ain’t got the joint [Grammy award]. I got a certificate and a nice ass suit. And then like four or five plaques. I had a nice Billboard year last year…We had something do with it [‘Fancy’]. A lot of vibes, a lot of push. We put trust funds up for that song. So, shout out to that song.”
In regards to his own music, Skeme was asked why there’s been such a delay when it concerns the release of new music. According to Skeme, he was in the studio roughly 10 months out of the last 12 months, but chose not to put out any music until “it was all the way right.”

The West Coast musician also spoke on linking up with DJ Drama for his new project, Ingleworld 2.
“I get real [extra] about having the right kind of music,” he said. “I feel like a lot of time when I was working on shit, it wasn’t as good as I wanted it to be. Cause of me rushing shit. So, with the right situation being what it was at the time, I had time this past year to be in the studio damn near every day. So, out of 12 months, I would probably say I was in the studio 10 months out of the whole year…And I just didn’t want to put nothing out til it was all the way right. So, when Drama and them came out to see me…I told him I would come to Atlanta for two weeks. When I went down to Atlanta, I made another 30 songs while I was out there for two weeks.”
Skeme’s Ingleworld 2 is currently slated for release on April 28.
