Singing her 2006 song “Resentment” over the weekend on the On The Run tour in Ohio, Beyonce switched the lyrics of her B’day track sparking speculation that she was referencing infidelity on the part of husband Jay Z.
The song, which appeared on Beyonce’s album after released and unreleased versions from Victoria Beckham and Jennifer Hudson respectively, references a six-year relationship. Performing the song in a white wedding dress on Saturday (June 28), Beyonce changed the lyrics to reportedly correspond with the amount of time her and Jay Z have been together.
“I know she was attractive, but I was here first,” she sang. “Been riding with you for 12 years / Why did I deserve to be treated this way by you?”
The Daily News reports that the lyric didn’t apply to Beyonce’s then four-year relationship with Jay Z upon its release in 2006. Using their 2002 hit “Bonnie & Clyde” as a reference point, the couple’s relationship seems to have started around the same time.
